PRE-promotion ceremony

So, now that it's had 36 hours to sit, and I've taken MANY deep breaths, I think I can talk about this. We almost didn't make it to the promotion. Here's what happened...

6:30PM Thursday night, Dustin asked me if I wanted to come to his promotion at 9AM on Friday. OF COURSE WE WANTED TO GO! He didn't think it was as big a deal because it was an automatic promotion (he has been a WO1 for 2 years, and then he gets his CW2. He didn't have to compete for it, it's just a gimme). When Dustin became a WO1, I pinned him. When he got his wings, I pinned him. They were actual pins. This one was in a different uniform, and velcro. I knew Mya could handle it, and actually likes to play with the velcro on his uniform.

7:15AM Friday morning, my alarm goes off, I get up, Mya gets up, Dustin comes home. I start to get ready, and Dustin got Mya ready.

8:00AM Dustin leaves about 20 minutes before us to get a few extra things at work done. I had it all timed to leave the house in order to be there 20 minutes before it started. I know how important it is to Dustin to ALWAYS be on time, and I hate to be the reason things are late for him. Especially when it comes to his work.

8:22AM, About 3 minutes before walking out the door, Mya heads downstairs. I'm thinking, "GREAT! Now, I don't have to get her down there to go to the garage!" I'm grabbing batteries for the video camera and I hear "uh oh! Mama..." I'm not concerned, what could she have done? Famous last thoughts.... Mya has peed on the carpet just outside of the bathroom, then moved into the bathroom and peed on the floor in there. THE ENTIRE FLOOR. She didn't even bother pulling down her tights and panties. I found her standing on the bathroom scale (high ground) smiling. I could have smacked the curl right out of her hair! I can't just leave it there, and she obviously needs to change. So, by the time we get out the door, the bathroom still smells like pee. I just threw the clean up towels, rugs and clothes in the tub. We are 10 minutes behind, but should still arrive 10 minutes before the start. Everything will be ok.

8:50AM, I'm on the phone with Dustin "ok, I can't see hangar 3052, I thought it was the 1st right after turning onto 41st division road". Blah blah blah, confusion, blah blah blah...

8:59AM, D: "Crap, this stupid ceremony is for me, starting in 1 minute, and I'm not even in there."
H: "Just do it without us!"
D: "no I want you there, where are you?"
H: "I just saw the blackhawk take off, I'm looking at Mt. Rainier and I'm parked next to a green fence"
D: "green fence...are you kidding me? Hold on, I'm going to have Mike tell you how to get here, he knows it better"
H: thinking, good, I can't divorce Mike, maybe this will work
Mike gives me execellent directions and I get there.

9:10AM Mya pins her Daddy's new rank on his chest, and it's adorable.

So, I was only about 300 feet away, but I might as well have been 300 miles, there was NO way I was going to get there without help. All the times we have talked about where Dustin works, we must have never listened to each other very well because we have both given each other directions there, and never caught that we were talking about 2 different places. The saddest thing is, before yesterday, I had been there twice before. Oops...in my own defense, I wasn't the one driving.
