5K Race!

On Saturday, February 9th, our family competed in the Black History Month 5K race! This year at the gym, I'm competing in the "Cross Train Challenge" where my team mate and I have to complete 10 weeks of challenges, and at the end of 10 weeks, whichever team has made the most improvement wins. The 1st place price is 3 months worth of gym cards. They are $20 a month. 2nd place gets 2 months, 3rd place 1 month. When the challenge started there were 18 teams. Tomorrow is the start of week 5, and we are down to 11 teams. YES! The way they are tracking progress is 1 minute of full body pushups, 1 minute of full body sit ups and the time for a 5K run (3.1 miles). The 1st week, I did 35 situps, 18 pushups and had a 44:01 time. At week 4, I was up to 43 situps, 23 pushups, and a 36:15 for my time!! I'm really excited about my improvement and wanted everyone to know!
Dustin ran the race also as a support for me. The girl running with him is our neighbor Abbie and she is 8 years old. She ran a different 5K a couple of months ago with her Dad and loved it. Right now her Dad is in SERE-C school and wasn't able to attend, so Dustin ran with her. They both had a great time, and Abbie finished 1st for her age group!! (if you don't count Mya!)
It was a great day, and we are looking forward to our next one in week 10, the St. Patty's Day 5K! Even if it kicks my butt and I'm sore for days afterward, the feeling of accomplishment is worth it!!
