Today, we had some nice weather, and I've been itching to do something outside with Mya here in Western WA. So, naturally, we went to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Mya loves fish, and we spent the majority of the time at the aquarium. She kept running from tank to tank, pointing at the fish with excited squeals.
She also loved the Walruses (walri?? see Helena Jole's blog about plurals), and we got there just before the feeding started. We were able to see the different "tricks" that they do, including waving, blowing their nose, rolling on their back, spitting water, splashing water, whistling, and many more. Her favorite part was when they would roll or slide back into the water.
We can't wait to go again, except we'll go a bit earlier so that nap time doesn't sneak up on us quite as fast, and maybe we'll get through the entire zoo.

The walruses are fun! (My spell check isn't complaining, so I guess that's right!)
We've had a zoo membership for a couple of years and it's been a lot of fun, but I've noticed that Kate's attention span seems to be actually decreasing. She used to be just fascinated by the belugas, and would stand there watching them swim around and around. Now she looks at them for ten seconds and wants to run to the next thing. We did get her to sit through the animal show this last time, though, which was a major accomplishment. She was also fascinated by a fake touch-tank that they had set up outside the aquarium, with toy plastic crabs in it. She must have played with that for at least twenty minutes. Go figure. All these animals around and she wants to play with the plastic ones.
