What a week!

So...most of you have heard, but for those that haven't, we've had an eventful week. On Tuesday (the 18th) Mya had allergies all day, lots of runny nose and sneezing. We put her to bed that night and she coughed until 7AM. I didn't sleep well (or at all) while she was coughing because I was worried Dustin would get up with her, and had to be to the flight line very early. At 7, she finally stopped coughing and we both fell asleep. Around 8:45 I woke up and went to check on her. At that point, I couldn't wake her up and could tell she was having a hard time breathing. I started a breathing treatment for her and called 911. Unfortunately, the operator there made it seem that it would be faster if I drove Mya to the hospital myself, so I headed out in the car. By the time we got there, Mya couldn't hold her head up, but she was awake. Her lips, hands and feet were blue from the lack of oxygen. We were seen immediately, and they started treatment fast. It broke my heart, they started IV's, drew blood several times (once from her artery...OUCH!) and she didn't even flinch. They continued to give her breathing treatments, and that was helping. Once she could breathe a little easier she fell asleep. The doctors decided it would be best if Mya was flown to the Children's Hospital in Birmingham, AL for a few days to figure out what was going on and to continue treatment. Mya left on their Jet around 4, and Dustin and I went home to shower and pack. We made it to Birmingham around 8. They had Mya in isolation because they were thinking that a virus might have triggered Mya's attack. So, we had to wash thoroughly, and then wear a gown and gloves to even go in her room. (She was in the ICU, so we would have had to wash anyway...). We were kicked out at 11 and stayed in a hotel for the night. We were allowed back at 8:30. When we got there, we found out that Mya had been moved across the hall to Special care. YAY! When we walked in, she was sitting up in her crib and staring off in space. That broke my heart again. She was thrilled to see us and started acting like herself after about 10 minutes. We were getting "high 5's" 1st, and then she started smiling for Dustin. That afternoon we were kicked out again, but then called after an hour and told us they were moving her to a regular room. So, we went back to the hospital and after about 2 hours she went to her new room. Mya was thrilled because she could finally walk around. The oxygen monitor on her foot went off constantly because it was messing up the reading, but we figured out quickly how to turn that off. She didn't sleep very well that night, but that didn't surprise us with all the nurses coming in and out and have a few monitors hooked up to her. By morning, she was back to normal completely. We were released around noon on Friday and sent home. She has been diagnosed with Asthma. Right now, she is taking 2 different inhalers. One is a maintenance medicine that she takes twice a day, the other is a fast acting one that is for attacks. We have learned that coughing is also a sign of an asthma attack, not just wheezing. They told us that most attacks in children this age are induced by a virus. We have noticed though if she is running around a lot, she starts to wheeze a little bit.

We want to thank everyone who prayed for Mya, and all of the concern that you showed. We also want to thank all of those who brought meals and helped with the house while we were gone. And especially, we want to Thank Ashlee. She really stepped up to the plate for us. She called the ER and let them know we were coming, she showed up at the ER with food for me, and more importantly, MORAL SUPPORT!! She took care of Ada, and then with Kristen's help, cleaned up Mya's room and our house. Checking our air vents and cleaning up pollen or anything else that might cause an asthma attack. AWESOME FRIENDS!!! THANKS SO MUCH!!! We love you!

I need to tell you about Abby. We have had something like that. We have been learning things for the last two years. She was in the hospital for almost a week. We have been to primary childrens in Salt Lake. Give me a call. I am at my parents. I have some things that will help you find triggers. Your family will be in our prayers.
